The joint effort of BPI/MS with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and its business units in all over the world was recognized by PIRA. On 09 October 2014, at the New World Hotel in Makati City, PIRA recognized and honored those who helped in Yolanda relief and rehabilitation efforts, including national media personalities who figured prominently in the reportage of the super typhoon.

Employees and agents of BPI/MS and Mitsui Sumitomo united in conducting fund raising campaigns, even donated their personal money and sacrificed their budget for Christmas parties just to help alleviate the victims’ sufferings. Cash donations reached a total of P8,726,211.00 which our President Kenichi Tanabe turned over to Philippine Red Cross, UNICEF, World Vision, BPI Foundation and Ayala Foundation.

BPI Foundation allotted the money for educational rehabilitation by constructing classrooms for public schools in areas that were devastated by the typhoon. While Ayala Foundation focused on the livelihood rehabilitation, especially in the fishing villages in Negros Occidental.
